![]() ![]() The core concept of “everything happened a long time ago this is just ruins” is a cliche that is rarely interesting (exceptions are Fallout and BioShock). It’s not like you’re going to get any development by visiting the four villages, defeating the Divine Beasts, or collecting all the memories though. Then, since everyone likes to call those Divine Beasts and the memories “optional,” all that’s left is to go kill Ganon and watch Link and Zelda try to restore the land. There is brief exposition in Kakariko from Impa about how Ganon took over and defeated everyone 100 years ago while taking over four Divine Beasts. You wake up with a simple goal given by the disembodied voice of Zelda: defeat Ganon. Sure, not all games need a strong story or lore, like Tetris, but this isn’t Tetris. This is The Legend of Zelda, and a large part of a Zelda experience is the story and characters. The story is so light that it may as well not even be there. ![]() Put simply, Breath of the Wild lacks charm, character, personality, or that “ Zelda magic.” This game is far too flawed to be getting this level of praise. It’s the people foaming at the mouth at how it’s objectively better than other games, objectively better than other Zelda games, did open world better than other games, and want to enshrine it that I am addressing. If Breath of the Wild is your personal favorite game or favorite Zelda game, I’m not speaking to you. I just have to explain that this isn’t some perfect masterpiece that all games need to aspire to be that it isn’t the best game of all time. I don’t have to convince anyone that it’s a bad game because it’s not. This has even prompted Nintendo themselves to suggest all Zelda games going forward will be “open-air” like Breath of the Wild. It’s a given that it will win numerous game of the year awards considering the love affair the press has with this game. I was beginning to think we as a gaming community had gotten past hyperbole, but many have been quick to declare this the best Legend of Zelda game, the best open world game, and the overall best game of all time. It’s been just over five months since The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild opened to a landslide of perfect scores from the media at large. ![]()

![]() ![]() Unlocking mini games was also monotonous in that you had to get them to appear in a board before purchasing them to actually freely play them, not to mention that a great deal of these mini games were copypasted from the predecessor adding to all of that you need to buy all of the mini games to play the Mini Game Coaster mode (why?). Outside of Horror Land (and in some cases, Bowser Land), much of the boards were "whatever" to me, Mystery Land being a pure example of a bad Mario Party board (having ? Spaces as the only means of traversal on a board is a big fat gigantic Godzilla-sized no-no). ![]() ![]() The costumes were a neat idea and I do hope that feature returns (this time, optional), but outside of that, Mario Party 2 was kind of."okay". Hopefully one of these days, I'll play it (and 7 and enough of 8).Īlso, agreed to your other post. Fri 21st Oct Yeah, I'm aware of the heys for 6.I'm not much of a fan of the vehicular-based board gameplay, but I still greatly enjoyed 9 and 10 for their mini games.Įdit: I never played 6 or 7, plus I haven't played enough of 8 to have an opinion on. Literally the only thing that's keeping SMP lit up is its character roster, but even that isn't enough to make SMP better than "okay at best". Super Mario Party was a needed return to the classic formula, but not without its plethora of flaws that ranged from its broken ally system to ungodly slower-paced boards, and from bland boards and mini games to shortage of content overall and disappointing modes (save for River Survival, which is literally the only mode I liked). Island Tour had neat ideas, but it was a disaster left and right, with its boards being some of the most poorly-designed outright. You enjoy what YOU want to enjoy, and no list should tell you otherwise! I wouldn't put too much weight on these kinds of lists anyway. If you suck at minigames, then you may not get very far.Īnd while there's not a crazy amount to do in the game, the core gameplay in this game is way too solid and actually fun to more than make up for that.īesides, I'm sure a lot of people, me included, gave it an ''at the time'' score, but even then if scored in present day standards, it's really not THAT much 'worse' than other games.įor me, Mario Party 2 was and still is the best Mario Party game of them all.īut that's the beauty of opinions, isn't it? I love Mario Party 2, while yours would be an entirely different entry, and we can both just enjoy the game we both enjoy the most while respecting each other's opinion. Besides, it's not like MP2 throws strategies or skill out the window entirely. There's no reason board games can't rely on RNG plenty of actual tabletop games have random elements thrown into them, Mario Party 2 is no different. We've excluded the Japan-only arcade games and that rather odd GBA e-Reader title from the rankings - mostly because we're old and we can't afford to go to Japan to seek these gems out, or because the e-Reader is a fickle beast and never showed its face on European shores. We asked you to rank every single Mario Party game that you've played, and below, you'll be able to find out which one is the prime party candidate, and what should be left in their gift wrap and returned. No, we don't want any bickering - it's our (your) job to give the stars out, not win them this time around. There have been 17 main Mario Party games since the series debuted in 1998, and with that many titles out there, how on earth do you choose which Party to pack to your next school (or family) reunion? Well, we're counting on you lovely lot for that. But, of all of them, Mario Party may have spawned a few too many arguments that have spawned an amusing life-long legacy of familial rivalries and blistered hands. If you had a Nintendo 64, there's no doubt you managed to wrangle your family (or friends) in for a few games of a few multiplayer games featuring the Italian plumber at Christmas. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() We meet to discuss its potential and whether to proceed with a reactive stunt. Vive Pro 2: Resolution, and little else Plus, its granular interpupillary distance (IPD) slider will be great news for many head shapes and sizes that don't conform to Quest 2's backwards, cost-saving IPD slider. Vive Focus 3 is otherwise an across-the-board jump: a 120-degree FOV (compared to Quest 2's 92 degrees), a default refresh rate of 90 Hz (up from Quest 2's 72 Hz default, which can scale up to 90 Hz and beyond), 8GB of RAM (up from Quest 2's 6GB), and a "5K" display that offers a 170 percent jump in pixel resolution over Oculus' latest model. The only spec they have in common is the Snapdragon XR2 as an SoC. On paper, the untethered Vive Pro 3 sure seems like a sexy jump from Quest 2. The silence there, as far as I'm concerned, speaks volumes.īut follow-up questions reveal that HTC isn't necessarily interested in consumers who are willing to spend more for untethered Quest-like options. Something like ViveCon would've been a great time to offer assurances for either current or future Cosmos customers. The Cosmos' default inside-out tracking remains wonky, even after getting firmware updates, and its default controllers are an unfortunate mix of heavy and power-inefficient. When pressed, Vive General Manager Dan O'Brien confirmed that this month's event has zero announcements in store for its Vive Cosmos line of headsets-which he also admitted is the company's "consumer offering for PC-VR." That's not great news for VR fans outside the enterprise sphere. Those high prices aren't accidents, as the HTC Vive department is full-speed ahead with a focus on business, enterprise, and public entertainment centers (aka "VR-cades"). And the Vive Pro 2, a long-overdue spec bump to 2018's Vive Pro, resembles the earlier model all too much while costing either $799 by itself or $1,399 for its "full kit." The Vive Focus 3, HTC's newest "all-in-one" untethered VR headset, competes directly with the Oculus Quest 2, but it costs a whopping $1,000 more than the Facebook-branded option, at $1,299 MSRP. That's probably the headline HTC wants VR fans to focus on-hooray, new stuff to strap to faces-but a closer examination of both headsets (and feedback directly from HTC's executive team) puts a damper on that, at least for any average consumer interested in buying either. Today's VR-centric ViveCon 2021, presented by HTC's Vive division of VR headsets, kicks off with two new headset models slated to launch this year. ![]() |
